Residents told newsmen that the incident occurred when the two brothers, accusing their half-brother of witchcraft, beat him brutally with sticks and injured their father when he attempted to rescue him.

The spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident.

According to him: “On July 25, 2024, at about 12:30 pm, intelligence available to our command disclosed that two individuals, Haruna Idi from Garkon Alli village in Kiyawa LGA and his 80-year-old father, Idi Hassan, from the same address, had been severely beaten with sticks. Consequently, the victim suffered a serious injury.

“On receipt of the report, detectives from Kiyawa Division raced to the scene of the crime and conveyed the victims to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse for medical attention.

“One of the victims, Haruna Idi, died and the father, who had a fractured hand and leg, was admitted and is at the hospital receiving treatment.”

DSP Shiisu Adam explained that the preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects, Ahmadu Idi, 45, and Sale Idi, 25, both of Garkon Alli village, conspired and beat their brother, accusing him of witchcraft.

He said the suspects also injured their biological father, Idi Hassan, after he attempted to save his son.
