In an effort to rid Ogun State of criminal elements, operatives of the police command arrested four suspects, recovered four firearms and 17 cartridges in separate intelligence-led and proactive operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda areas.

The suspects are 36-year-old Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, Asaye Ajibola aged 30, Adedeji Olufemi aged 49, and a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku.

This was contained in a statement signed by the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Babaseyi explained that the suspects were arrested between Tuesday to Saturday for different offenses.

He said, “On 14th April 2026, at about 4:30 pm, operatives of Mowe Division acted on credible intelligence received from a member of the public regarding a suspicious individual loitering around Mowe Bus Stop. The suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo ‘m’, aged 36, was promptly arrested. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a single-barrel locally made pistol, one expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

“On 17th April 2026, at about 1400hrs, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), while on stop-and-search duty at Lafarge along Sagamu/Ogijo Road, intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle ridden by Asaye Ajibola ‘m’, aged 30. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges.

“The suspect, who could not provide a satisfactory account of the firearm, was immediately arrested.

“On 18th April 2026, at about 1200hrs, another QRS team intercepted a Honda motorcycle at the same Lafarge axis along Sagamu/Ogijo Road.

“The rider, Adedeji Olufemi ‘m’, aged 49, was found in possession of a locally made double-barrel gun with eight cartridges. He was arrested on the spot after failing to give a satisfactory explanation regarding the firearm.

“On 18th April 2026, at about 2013hrs, a shooting incident occurred at the Sawmill area of Osiele under Odeda Division. Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident involved a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku ‘m’, who allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally while returning from the farm. The discharge resulted in injuries to three persons.

“The suspect has been apprehended, and the firearm used in the incident has been recovered through collaboration with the Amotekun Corps. The victims were promptly taken to medical facilities, where they received treatment and are currently in stable condition, responding well to treatment.”

Babaseyi stated that all suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCIID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

He reiterated that the command will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, and other violent crimes.
