For the second time in a week, the Olu of Obafemi, Oba Taofeek Owolabi has failed to appear before the Ogun state House of Assembly, after he was summoned over allegation of land grabbing leveled against him by the indigenes of Agboro and Latunde, a community in Obafemi Owode Local government area of Ogun State.

The Olu of Obafemi, in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State was summoned over his alleged involvement in a land grabbing matter brought before it by residents of Agboro, a town in Obafemi Owode local government.

It could be recalled that Oba Taofeek Owolabi̇ Kayode was accused of forcibly taking possession of land belonging to some members of the community.

Ogun State Assembly has summoned the Olu of Obafemi, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Oba Taofeek Kayode, to appear before it on Wednesday regarding allegations of land grabbing.

The Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Damilola Soneye during a committee meeting with representatives of the Agboro/ Latunde Community Development Association.

The association was led by its chairman, Olaseni Adeoye and the secretary, Kayode Onitande.

The community had accused the traditional ruler of forcibly taking possession of land belonging to some members of the community.

Soneye, in company of other lawmakers, explained that the invitation of the traditional ruler became imperative, as part of the quasi-judicial function of the assembly.

The lawmaker also explained that it was important to give all concerned parties in the dispute a fair hearing in accordance with the principle of the rule of law.

He further noted that petitions against the traditional ruler included alleged cases of land grabbing, threats to life and actions likely to cause communal clashes in the Agboro Community.

At the Wednesday sitting, all indigenes including Village heads and other communities affected by the activities of land grabbers allegedly sponsored by Olu Of Obafemii, were present at the sitting.

Also present were the Executives of Nigerian Institution of Surveyor, Ogun State chapter.

Addressing the community leaders, chairman, house committee on House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Damilola Soneye assured of fairness and justice to all concerns, while warning the community against taking laws into their hands

He said for fairness and equity, the Committee will for the last time invite the Monarch to appear before it on Wednesday 17th July, 2024, by 2pm.

He assured that the outcome of the committee will be fair to all parties.

He warned that the failure of the royal father to honour the invitation would prompt the Assembly to take a stiffer measure.
