The Zamfara State Government has announced the ban on sales of loaves of bread and petroleum in jerry cans to motorists and motorcycle riders for security reasons.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the state security council meeting, held recently at Government House, Gusau, Commissioner of Information and Culture Mannir Muazu Haidara said the council’s resolution was taken as a result of the nefarious activities of some filling stations who are in the habit of selling fuel in jerry cans and loaves of bread to some suspected bandits in some rural communities in the state.

“The Council observed with dismay over the attitudes of some filling stations, bakeries, and bread sellers in some rural areas of the state who are using vehicles and motorcycles to sell petroleum products and breads to some allegedly suspected armed bandits, we advised them to desist from the acts,” he said.

He also reiterated that the use of tinted glass, covering of number plates and use of sirens by some individuals on unauthorised vehicles have also been banned by the council and directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute offenders.

Haidara advised motorists who are yet to register their vehicles’ number plates with relevant government bodies to do so with immediate effect as concerned authorities in collaboration with security agencies are mandated to arrest and prosecute defaulters.

The commissioner also disclosed that security agencies have recovered some cattle from bandits and therefore called on citizens whose cattle were rustled to come along with supporting evidence and reclaim their rustled animals after completing the due process.
