A 43-year-old man, Trevor John Huber, has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole after being convicted of the murder of his 63-year-old mother, Charlotte Wilson, in Dunklin County, Missouri.
Huber, a resident of Cardwell, was found guilty of first-degree murder following a two-day trial held between May 18 and May 19. The sentence was handed down by Judge Josh Underwood.
According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain, the conviction followed years of investigation into the 2018 killing.
Authorities said the incident came to light on December 21, 2018, after the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call from a man at a residence on North Main Street in Cardwell.
Responding officers reportedly met Huber at the scene, where he appeared disoriented and allegedly under the influence of narcotics. Investigators said he admitted during questioning that he had used methamphetamine days before the killing.
Police later discovered the body of his mother inside the residence and immediately took him into custody.
Court documents revealed that Huber told investigators he feared his mother was attempting to poison him. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted he believed he had killed her.
Investigators also disclosed that Huber wrote a confession on a piece of paper stating, “I killed my mother,” before tearing it up and swallowing it.
A subsequent search of the residence led officers to recover additional evidence, including a knife and hammer believed to have been used in the attack.
Prosecutor Jain commended the efforts of the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their handling of the investigation and prosecution of the case.
