The Baale of Apena Community in Obada-Oko, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Chief Abiodun Gbadamosi, has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene in what he described as his ordeal of facing trial over alleged false accusations bordering on armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism.
Gbadamosi also alleged that his life was under threat from the traditional ruler of Obada-Oko, Oba Abiodun Olufemi Solaja, and some associates over a lingering dispute concerning family land in the community.
The community leader made the appeal in a “Save My Soul” petition dated May 6, 2026, and addressed to Governor Abiodun, a copy of which was made available to journalists on Monday.
According to Gbadamosi, the dispute dates back to September 2021 when the monarch and his brother, Dotun Solaja, allegedly accused him of attacking one Lekan Jogunomi with a machete on disputed land, while also alleging that he stole a wristwatch and damaged a vehicle.
He said the allegations prompted his arrest by operatives of the Nigeria Police Zone 2 Command in Lagos, after which he was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Itori on charges related to armed robbery and other offences.
The Baale stated that he was subsequently remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre before later securing bail.
Gbadamosi explained that after regaining freedom, he reported the matter to the Police X-Squad at Eleweran, Abeokuta, while his lawyer also initiated independent inquiries into the medical report allegedly used against him during the prosecution.
According to him, both the police investigators and his legal counsel wrote separately to the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, to authenticate the medical document submitted by the complainant in support of the allegations.
He disclosed that the hospital, in a letter dated January 26, 2024 and signed by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. J.T. Samuel, allegedly denied issuing the medical report presented before the police.
Gbadamosi said the development led investigators to conclude that the medical report used in the case was forged.
He further revealed that Justice A.A. Babawale of the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta, eventually discharged and acquitted him of all four counts brought against him in a judgment delivered on July 1, 2025.
Despite the acquittal, the community leader lamented that those allegedly linked to the forgery had yet to be prosecuted.
He accused the State Bureau of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice of failing to issue legal advice for the prosecution of the individuals involved.
According to him, “till today, the Bureau of Public Prosecution in the Office of the Attorney General has not issued legal advice for the arraignment of Oba Abiodun Femi Solaja and Dotun Solaja over allegations of forgery and land grabbing.”
He also alleged that the disputed land was still being sold while properties on the land were being destroyed, adding that members of his family and buyers of portions of the land had continued to face harassment.
The Baale maintained that several petitions submitted through his lawyer to the Office of the Attorney General and the Police Anti-Land Grabbing Squad had yet to yield any tangible action.
Appealing directly to Governor Abiodun, Gbadamosi described the governor as his “last hope after God Almighty,” urging the state government to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice prevails.
Responding to the allegations, the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sina Ogungbade, confirmed awareness of the matter but stressed that the Ministry of Justice would not act under pressure or media influence.
Ogungbade said prosecutorial decisions remained discretionary and must be guided strictly by available facts and the dictates of the law.
“The Ministry will do the right thing, but we will not be blackmailed into taking a predetermined action,” he said.
The Attorney General added that no amount of media campaign would compel the ministry to abandon due process or act outside its constitutional responsibility to ensure fairness to all parties involved.
When contacted for his reaction, Oba Solaja said he would address journalists on the allegations before the end of the week.
