Operatives of the Ogun State police command have apprehended 15 individuals for violating environmental regulations in Ifo local government area of the state.

The arrests were made during the command’s ongoing “Operation No Traffic Gridlock’ in the Abekoko and Old Bank axis along the Abeokuta, Lagos Expressway.

Spokesperson of the command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, in a statement made available to Newsmen on Friday, said the operation was aimed at ensuring the free flow of traffic and maintaining public order across the state.

He said the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

Babaseyi stated that the enforcement also saw the removal of several obstructions such as planks, trucks, shanties, and wares, from major roadways.

He said, “The exercise targeted traders’ illegal display of goods and makeshift structures, which obstructed traffic and violated environmental laws.

“During the enforcement, several planks, shanties, and wares obstructing the highway were dismantled and evacuated, with over six trucks deployed for removal.

“Fifteen individuals who defied lawful directives and violated environmental regulations were arrested and will be charged to court appropriately upon completion of investigation.”

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism and reiterated the command’s commitment to enforcing traffic and environmental laws.

He warned that any individual or group found obstructing public roads would be dealt with appropriately in accordance with the law, urging members of the public, especially traders and transport operators to comply with all regulations in the interest of public safety.
