As Oyebanji pledges openness, fair play for aspirants
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani has likened the All Progressives Congress (APC) to South Africa’s African National Congress, saying the party has the potential to rescue Nigeria from political and economic backwardness if it continues on a path of unity and decisive leadership.
This is as Governor Biodun Oyebanji who chairs the aspirants screening committee pledged that he would ensure openness and fair play for aspirants jostling for seats in the national working committee (NWC) of the party.
Nnamani who spoke ahead of the screening of aspirants for the national working committee (NWC) of the APC national convention, Nnamani emphasized that the party must not fear growth or responsibility.
“We are a big party. We must not be afraid to take bold steps. Like the ANC in South Africa, we can lead and transform our country,” he said.
He noted that the national convention is a critical test of party cohesion, with observers from neighboring countries watching closely to gauge APC’s capacity for cooperation and leadership.
Nnamani cited the presence of former governors, senators, and other stakeholders as members of the screening committee as evidence that the party’s organizational strength is already yielding results.
According to him, the contributions of working governors have been pivotal. Their support, along with the commitment of party members, sets a precedent for a successful convention and signals that APC is prepared to lead decisively.
Nnamani expressed confidence that the committee’s efforts will ensure that only qualified and capable leaders emerge to steer the APC at the national level, reinforcing the party’s commitment to democracy and good governance.
The 118 member screening committee which includes Tanko Al-Makura, Philip Shaibu, Uche Ekwunife, Isa Yuguda is co- chaired by Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi state.
