A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sango/Ado-Odo Local Government Area of Ogun State and Chairman of Alanlat Group of Companies, Chief Lateef Alani Gbadamosi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of a new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), describing the decision as a bold and timely step capable of restoring discipline, professionalism, and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking in an interview with reporters on Thursday in Abeokuta, Gbadamosi said the leadership change at the helm of the police would usher in a new phase of effective security operations across the country.

According to him, Nigerians should expect a major transformation in policing, noting that the newly appointed IGP possesses the experience and operational competence needed to tackle rising criminal activities and address internal challenges within the force.

He stressed that the country requires a police chief who understands field operations and is capable of taking firm and decisive actions at a time when insecurity, violent crimes, and communal disputes are becoming increasingly frequent across many parts of the country.

“I really appreciate the president for this appointment. The change came at the right time. What the police need is a strong and experienced officer who understands real police work, not just administration. The new IGP is the kind of person that can bring discipline and serious action,” he said.

Gbadamosi also criticised what he described as past mistakes in police postings, noting that some officers were deployed to strategic commands without adequate operational background.

He explained that such decisions had negatively affected crime-fighting efforts, particularly in major cities, adding that the appointment of a competent and experienced police chief would help correct those lapses.

The APC chieftain expressed optimism that with the new leadership, the Nigeria Police Force would regain its operational strength and rebuild public trust through improved professionalism, discipline, and effective response to security challenges.
