Former Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, will on Saturday celebrate her 61st birthday with a triple-event ceremony featuring the presentation of her new book and the launch of a philanthropic foundation.
The event, scheduled to hold at the Marriott Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, will bring together government officials, traditional rulers, professionals and other dignitaries to honour the retired public finance administrator.
At the event, Madein will formally unveil her book titled “Beyond the Ledger – A Journey in Public Finance and Governance: Musings of the First Female Accountant-General of Nigeria.”
The publication reflects on her more than three decades of service in Nigeria’s public financial management system, highlighting issues around fiscal governance, institutional reforms and leadership within the Federal Civil Service.
Also slated for launch is the Olowo Oloye Foundation for Empowerment and Education, a non-governmental organisation established in memory of her late father, Pa Surakat Sanni, popularly known as Olowo Oloye.
According to organisers, the foundation aims to support vulnerable groups, expand access to education, empower women and young people, and promote sustainable community development.
Saturday’s ceremony will also mark one year since Madein retired from the Federal Civil Service, bringing to a close a career widely regarded as distinguished in Nigeria’s public finance administration.
Madein made history when she became the first female Accountant-General of the Federation, breaking a long-standing gender barrier in the country’s financial governance system. Her contributions to public service have earned her several recognitions, among them the Guardian Newspapers Seven Wonder Women Award, listing among the 50 Power People in Africa by Exquisite Magazine in partnership with the African Women CEOs Network, the Nigerian Economic Society Distinguished Public Service Award, and induction into the Nigeria Women’s Hall of Fame as the first female Accountant-General of the Federation.
Over the course of her career, she served in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Family Economic Advancement Programme, National Poverty Eradication Programme, and the Federal Ministries of Police Affairs; Commerce and Industry; Works and Housing; Youth and Sports Development, as well as the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
Dignitaries expected at the event include Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who will attend as Special Guest of Honour; the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, as Royal Father of the Day; and former Ogun State governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, as Father of the Day.
