The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a set of restrictions targeting commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Adaidaita Sahu, during the month of Ramadan.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahid Aminuddeen: “Based on the directives of our Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board will conduct a special Ramadan operation.

“The special operation will be carried out throughout the Ramadan period in all places where people engage in immoral acts.”

According to the statement, tricycle operators are banned from wearing three-quarter trousers during Ramadan.

The board also prohibited them from playing loud music that disturbs passengers and members of the public.

Other banned activities include the use of knockouts across the city, indecent dressing that exposes parts of the body—especially by young women—and placing pornographic posters or stickers on tricycles.

The board further directed that male and female passengers who are not related should not be mixed in tricycles or made to sit closely together.

Aminuddeen warned that violators would be arrested and prosecuted.
“Any tricycle operator found violating the order will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

He added that the board has concluded plans to deploy its personnel to mosques where Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers will be held, to work alongside other security agencies in maintaining order.

The Hisbah official said the board would not “fold its arms and allow such bad behaviours and immoral activities” to continue, especially during the sacred month.
