Dr. Monica Hemben Eimunjeze, the Convener of D’Bio Wellness and Self-care Women’s Initiative, made the call in Makurdi, Benue State Capital in North Central Nigeria during a one day workshop on Nutrition, with the theme: Empower Women: Elevate Wellness; Embrace Self-Care.

She stressed the call to prioritize health, nutrition, and self-care as a reminder for women to take ownership of their well-being and make informed choices for a healthy and fulfilling life.

Dr. Eimunjeze emphasized the importance of empowering women to take control of their health through nutritious diets and self-care routines.

She noted the significance of women prioritizing their own well-being alongside caring for others, stating that knowledge about nutrition and self-care can elevate overall wellness and health.

She highlighted the role of nutrition in providing essential nutrients for optimal bodily function and underscored the impact of balanced diets on energy levels and mood.

Additionally, she emphasized the importance of self-care in reducing stress, enhancing mental well-being, and improving quality of life.

“Whether through mindfulness, exercise, relaxation techniques, or setting boundaries, self-care enables individuals to recharge and perform at their best in various aspects of life”, she stated.

The message resonated with Dr. Alex Addingi, the Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on International Investment, who highlighted the need for women to cultivate an investment culture for economic independence.

He urged men to support their wives in achieving economic freedom, by empowering them to be productive members of society.

Speaking with Journalists, Pharmacist Scholatica Mnena Lan, a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Association of Lady Pharmacists of Nigeria, raised concerns about the rampant use of contraceptives among unmarried young girls in Benue State.

She warned about the long-term effects of contraceptives on reproductive health and emphasized the importance of parents educating their children about sexual health and responsible behavior.

Furthermore, she highlighted the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections and substance abuse among youths in the state, urging regular exercise, medical check-ups, and early intervention for underlying health issues.
