“I asked the bad guys to go there to collect his gold. They would have sold it and given the money to me,” Jessica said.

She said she asked the armed robbers to rob her boyfriend’s house because she needed money to offset her sister’s bills.

Jessica, a secondary school dropout, also said she will feel bad if it was her boyfriend that did same act to her.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who narrated the incident while parading the suspects, said Jessica and her boyfriend had been dating before they broke up and after a while, they came back together in December 2025.

“In fact, they were intimate December last month. Lo and behold, she (Jessica) in connivance with her friend, went to one of the black spots we have in Warri trying to locate any of the bad guys.”

Edafe said Jessica pleaded with the robbers to help rob her friend.

The police spokesman added, “Am not sure if she told them the person was her boyfriend. But unfortunately for her, the person she met happened to be the leader of that community who has been helping the police to ensure that these bad guys are flushed out of the community.

“Unfortunately for her also, he happened to know the guy because they asked for the guy’s picture. Upon bringing the picture, it happened to be someone they knew. He quickly contacted him that somebody has come to us that we should come and rob you.

“The boyfriend now said ok. Please, just play along. So, they played along, they told her that the money that they will need to buy tools is around N65,000.

“She transferred N50,000 through POS and gave them the cash of N15,000 making it the N65,000. They played along.

“She actually took them to the estate where the boyfriend lives, showed them the house of the boyfriend. It was when they were coming back from the estate that the boyfriend alerted the security of the estate and they were all arrested and she opened up.

“The said boyfriend said one of his gold bracelets cost N4.2 million. He said the other gold cost N8.9 million. He said, ‘I feel heartbroken because I never expected it from her.”
