The Centre for Wounded Servicemen and Fallen Heroes Supports Fund has joined the Federal Government and Nigerians in marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, paying tribute to fallen military personnel and wounded servicemen who sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Centre said the annual remembrance was a solemn national duty aimed at honouring the courage, patriotism and selfless service of members of the Armed Forces who died while protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Centre, Gen. Cecil Esekhiagbe (retd.), described the fallen heroes as “the foundation upon which Nigeria’s peace and security are built,” noting that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

“Their blood was not shed in vain. Their courage remains the bedrock of our national unity and future,” he said.

The Centre also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, alongside the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the National Security Adviser and the Service Chiefs for what it described as their “steadfast leadership and strategic commitment” to strengthening the country’s security architecture.

According to the statement, the leadership of the armed forces has continued to inspire confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions and reinforce national resolve against emerging security threats.

Reaffirming its mandate, the Centre said it would continue to advocate for the welfare of wounded servicemen and the families of fallen heroes, stressing that their sacrifices must be honoured beyond ceremonial observances.

“As Nigerians gather across the country to lay wreaths and observe moments of silence, there is a collective responsibility to uphold the values of unity, patriotism and service for which our heroes lived and died,” the statement added.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually on January 15 in honour of Nigeria’s fallen military personnel.
