Sen. Nwebonyi offers Scholarship to 21 young Football prayers in Ebonyi

The Deputy Senate Majority Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi has offered scholarships to 21 young football prayers from Ohaukwu, local government area of Ebonyi state studying and intending to school in any federal or state Universities of their choice.

Nwebonyi representing Ebonyi North senatorial district announced this while cheering the Ohaukwu football team who defeated their counterpart from Izzi local government area in the finale of 2025 Ohamadike Super football Cup, donated by him.

The final match was played at the Pa Ngele Oruta township stadium, Abakaliki and was decided in a penalty shootout which ended 5-4 in favour of Ohaukwu boys who smile home with the trophy and a cheque of 5 million naira.

Also, Abakaliki FC which secured the 3rd position went home with 2 million while the Izzi in their second place, got 3 million naira.

According to Nwebonyi, “you the Ohaukwu boys have won yourself an automatic scholarship. So check yourself, either you are already in the university or about to, your school fees will be paid 100 percent until you graduate.

“This is the catch them young syndrome. If we cannot catch you to play for Abakaliki FC team, national or international clubs, we can catch you to be a graduate and that is why we are here,” he stated.

By this new record, indicates that not less than 500 indigent and non Indigents students are presently enjoying higher institution scholarships from the senator in various higher institutions in Nigeria.

Nwebonyi who was impressed with the standard of the tournament, further said he would boast the competition from 10 million to 50 million beginning from this year.

“And the motive is to compliment the efforts of the state governor Francis Nwifuru in the development of sports and engaging the youth in meaningful ventures,” he said.
