The Senate Deputy Chief Whip of the 10 assembly, Sen. Onyekachi Nwebonyi has flagged off distribution of educational materials such as reading desks, exercise books and text books to boost learning in primary and secondary schools across four local government areas of Ebonyi North senatorial district.

However, a total of 6,000 pupils would benefit from the 2,000 3-in-1 units seats while over 1,500 secondary schools students got General English and Mathematics textbooks.

The writing and textbooks were handled to some students who attended the event while Headmasters and Principals of both public and private schools in Ebonyi North district would took take in reading desks.

The event took place at Ohaukwu Local Government Headquarters of the state on Saturday.

Speaking, Sen. Nwebonyi said the gesture were parts of his contributions towards bridging the gap in education inequality, essentially among pupils in some rural areas, seating on the floor to learn during school hours.

Also, he added was to compliment the efforts of the state governor, Francis Nwifuru in addressing illiteracy and our of school children, adding that the development of every society is dependent on its education.

According to him, “the development of every society is dependent on the quality of education given to the children, because today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders.

“This is why I have procured these desks, exercise books and reading textbooks to support learning in our schools and to also support the efforts of the state governor (Francis Nwifuru) towards tackling illiteracy.

“As a matter of fact our primary schools children seating on the floor to learn will now have desk to seat. Those who were out of school because they cannot afford writing materials, can now return and have reading texts free of charge,”he stressed.

The lawmaker, who highlighted some of his achievements since assuming office, listed the construction of over 16 kilometres of concrete roads across the four local government areas in the zone, distribution of vehicles, motorcycles, agricultural processing machines, and scholarships to more than 300 students as parts of his achievements since assumption of office in 2023.

He further disclosed that plans are on the way to commence work on the 12- Kilometer Ogudu–Odumoke road in Ohaukwu Local Government, noting that the first two kilometres had already been awarded.

“We are determined to set a record that will be difficult, if not impossible to beat. As we move into the 2025 budget year, more of such interventions will come,”he assured.

Also, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, commended Sen. Nwebonyi for his, quality representation at the Senate, hence, called on the people to continue supporting the ruling party.
