The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor of the state and serving senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, alongside one of his political associates, Kunle Folarin, over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, following a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) presided over by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi.

According to the statement, Daniel and Folarin, both members of APC from Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area, respectively, were sanctioned after the SWC reviewed the findings of separate disciplinary committees set up at the ward level to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities.

The party noted that the disciplinary panels had invited the duo to appear and present their defence or request leniency but they failed to honour the invitations or submit any written response.

“In view of their deliberate and unexplained absence, the committees deliberated as scheduled, heard from available witnesses, considered documentary evidence, and deliberated on the allegations,” the statement read.

The committees further alleged that Daniel and Folarin attempted to interfere with the disciplinary process by harassing party members and pressuring them to withdraw petitions filed against them.

Consequently, the ward committees resolved to suspend both members indefinitely and forwarded their recommendations to the State Working Committee, which ratified the suspensions.

Olufemi said the decision underscored the party’s commitment to discipline and adherence to its constitution.

“The suspensions were based on the members’ failure to cooperate with the investigation and their attempts to pressure party members to withdraw petitions against them,” the statement added.
