NANNM Suspends Nationwide Strike After Agreement With FG

The Nigeria Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, effective immediately.

The decision to suspend the strike was made after the National Executive Council (NEC) reviewed the outcomes of negotiations with the Federal Government and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The statement noted that key
resolution reached by the NEC includes:- suspension of the nationwide strike in the spirit of dialogue and good faith, continuous monitoring of the government’s compliance with agreed timelines.

Also amongst the decisions reached are- Immediate mobilization of members for resumption of duty and
a directive that no nurse, including intern and locum nurses, should be victimized for participating in the strike

The State Secretary of NANNM Bayelsa State Council, Fii Tomubari Samuel, has therefore directed all units and members to resume duty immediately and ensure full compliance with the directive.

The statement concluded that a detailed NEC circular has been attached for reference and necessary action.

The statement reads:” I write to inform you that the National Executive Council, after an emergency virtual meeting held on 2nd August 2025, reviewed the outcomes of the negotiation with the Federal Government and, following the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), resolved to suspend the nationwide strike with immediate effect.

” Key highlights of the resolution include:
Suspension of the nationwide strike in the spirit of dialogue and good faith.

” Continuous monitoring of the government’s compliance with the agreed timelines.

” Immediate mobilization of members for resumption of duty.

” Directive that no nurse, including intern and locum nurses, should be victimized for participating in the strike.

” You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to all units and members under your jurisdiction and ensure full compliance with the directive on the immediate resumption of duty.

“Attached is the detailed NEC circular for your reference and necessary action.”
