The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the reopening of the airspace for flight operations following a runway incident involving Air Peace flight P47190 at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, involved an aircraft with registration number 5N-BQQ that departed from Lagos and landed at the Port Harcourt airport at approximately 7:45 a.m., but overshot Runway 03 upon landing.
In an updated statement released on Sunday in Lagos and signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident.
“We are relieved to report that there were no casualties. Evacuation of the 127 passengers onboard has been completed safely,” the statement read.
FAAN noted that as a result of the incident, the available landing distance on the runway has been reduced from 3,000 metres to 2,700 metres.
Passengers intending to travel to Port Harcourt have been advised to anticipate possible delays in flight operations while normal activities gradually resume.
FAAN reiterated its commitment to the safety and security of all passengers and assured the public that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
