Following the suspension of Shehu Gabam, the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), some suspected thugs invaded the party’s national headquarters in Wuse 2, Abuja.

In a viral video, the intruders were seen forcefully dragging the gate of the building as a man in a suit instructed them to enter. Some in the group were heard shouting “our chairman”.

There has been an official statement from the party about the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, SDP announced the suspension of Gabam as the party’s national chairman, alongside Nnadi Clarkson, national auditor, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, national youth leader, over alleged financial misconduct.

“The national working committee of the Social Democratic Party has approved the immediate suspension of Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the national chairman, along with Nze Nnadi Clarkson and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, over grave allegations of gross financial misconduct, embezzlement, misappropriation and diversion of party funds,” a statement signed by Rufus Aiyenigba, SDP’s national publicity secretary, reads.

“This action is to demonstrate to the general public that the SDP — generally esteemed by Nigerians as a disciplined and credible alternative political platform — has zero tolerance for corruption and abuse of office.”
