Military eliminates 6,260 terrorists, rescues 5,365 civilians in 2 years – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that the military has killed 6,260 terrorists and apprehended 14,138 terrorists and other criminals in joint operations across the country over the past two years.

According to Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Abu-Mawashi, Deputy Director Defence Media Operations, the troops have also rescued 5,365 kidnapped victims and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition.

In the Niger Delta region, Operation Delta Safe recovered N83 billion worth of stolen crude oil, killed 103 criminals, apprehended 2,760 others, and rescued 266 civilians.

In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai intensified operations, resulting in the killing of 1,246 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, while 2,467 of them were arrested, and 1,920 civilians were rescued.

In the North West, Operation Fasan Yamma killed 1,374 bandits, including their top commanders, in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.

The troops also arrested 2,160 bandits and rescued 3,288 hostages from bandits’ enclaves. Additionally, 947 weapons and 25,802 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

The military operations in the North Central region resulted in the killing of 730 terrorists, bandits, and violent extremists, and the arrest of 7,153 violent extremists.

A total of 1,510 civilians were rescued, while 1,065 weapons and 19,709 rounds were recovered.

In the South East, the troops of Operation UDO KA eliminated 440 terrorists, arrested 1,677 criminals, rescued 294 civilians, and recovered 683 weapons and 21,300 rounds of ammunition.

In the South West, the Joint Task Force killed 80 criminals, arrested 1,763 others, rescued 89 kidnap victims, and recovered 143 weapons and 177,904 rounds of ammunition.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other service chiefs marked two years in office with an event highlighting their achievements and commitment to a people-centric armed forces.

The Director Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, emphasized the military’s commitment to keeping the public informed about their activities and achievements.
