2027: APC Governors adopt Tinubu as sole Presidential candidate
… ensure Tinubu wins Uzodimma tells APC govs
… it’s Nigerian voters, not govs that will decide Tinubu’s fate – Wabara

Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing the APC National summit at the Presidential Villa, Governor Hope Uzodima of Imo State and the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, said the governors have agreed that the President is the sole Presidential candidate for the party.

The motion for the endorsement was moved by Uzodima and seconded by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State .

Afterwards, Governor also put the question to the gathering which was unanimously taken by a yes vote.

Speaking, the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, charged governors to take charge of the political space within their domain.

Uzodimma said State governors must ensure that APC wins all elections in their areas.

This, he said will set the ball rolling for Tinubu to emerge for a second term.

Uzodimma also acknowledged the endorsement of Tinubu by the Northern APC governors.

According to Uzodimma: “We acknowledge the resolution of these governors that the president should be used and adopted as our flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election for a second term.

“That the governors produced by the APC are here by charged to take responsibility for market all federal government policies and occupying all the political space in their domains, win all elections in their states come 2027.

“It is therefore my humble pleasure with total humility to the Almighty God to move that this August assembly adopt and concur the position of Progressives governors that Mr President Carry’s our flag in 2027 and the governors take the responsibility for delivering this mandate, I so move.”

Nigerian voters, not govs ‘ll decide Tinubu’s fate in 2027 – Wabara

Meanwhile, Former Senate President and the Chairman Board of Trustees BoT of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has said that the Nigerian electorates and not few Governors will decide the fate of President Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Senator Wabara was reacting to the adoption of Tinubu by APC Governors as their sole candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

He, however, commended the Governors for giving the President the right of first refusal which he acknowledged, “is a global practice and tradition”, but added that being the flag bearer of the ruling party does not translate to automatic victory at the pool.

Senator Wabara recalled that in 2015, PDP’s presidential flag bearer, President Goodluck Jonathan, was a sitting- President but lost to the then opposition APC’s candidate.

The former Senate President told the APC Governors to allow President Tinubu’s work to speak for him.

He said that the Nigerian masses “who on daily basis, feel the impact of the APC-led federal government, are the only ones to decide the President’s fate in 2027”.

The PDP BoT Chairman who argued that “it’s too early to overheat the polity with 2027 elections when INEC has not lifted ban on campaigns “advised APC Governors to rather concentrate on how to make life affordable for Nigerians who are battling to survive the hardship inflicted on them by APC’s maladministration.”

He said:” I thank APC Governors for respecting the age-long tradition of giving a first time President or Governor the right of first refusal. I didn’t expect less.

” But I would like to remind them that Governors do not have the mandate to decide who becomes President in 2027, such right resides with the electorates.

“I think the APC should rather be preoccupied with how to make life better for millions of Nigerians who have been forced into poverty due to APC’s misrule and bad economic policies”.

The former Senate President who accused the APC of foisting one party system on Nigeria warned of the grave danger such drifting poses to the country’s democracy.
