Assistant Inspector General of Police incharge of zone 9, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu has charged men and officers of Ebonyi State command to imbibe high sense of professionalism while on duty.

AIG Uzegbu gave this charge on Wednesday in Ebonyi State Police Command, headquarters in Abakiliki during his official working visit to the state.

His words: “The law was established by the constitution and by so doing we have a fundamental duty to do.

“Unethical conduct is not allowed, you have to do your job as stipulated by law. It has to be done by fact, not by fancy, our policemen are doing a fantastic job.

“IPOB involvement in the South East is tied up and we know most of their inclinations, we will go against them, raid all of them hideout and carry out our war against any of them.

“I would like to say that all those thoughts about IPOB exist only in imaginations.

“Like I said in my lecture, I came here to interface with the officers and men, to build their capacity and confidence and by so doing they will do more.”

Earlier, the State Commissioner of Police Adaku Uche- Anya stated that the command lack adequate manpower in the state.

Anya who has served as 27 police Commissioner of the state, further identified murder, cultism, border dispute, communal clashes and activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as major crisis ravaging the state.

She stressed that the command has low manpower in policing the state.

The Ebonyi State Police Commissioner further maintained that the command through stakeholders involvement has resolved some communal clashes ravaging some communities in the state.

“The prevalent crimes in the Command include, cultism, communal clashes, murder, boundary disputes, and activities related to separatist groups (IPOB).

“The Command has thoroughly analyzed these crime trends and adopted proactive strategies to combat them through community policing, high visibility policing, intelligence-led policing, and extensive raids on criminal hideouts and hotspots.

“We have successfully addressed various security challenges in the state through stakeholder dialogue.

“This approach has been instrumental in managing the communal issues, land and boundary disputes in different communities in the state.

“For instance, Ekpaomaka and Inyimagu communities in Ikwo LGA and this engagement helped us arrest principal actors and others fanning the embers of communal crisis in that area.

“Also, it is important to note that the Command is facing a shortage of manpower, which is a common issue affecting the Nigeria Police Force.
