The Akwa Ibom State Police command has paraded one Louis Akpojotor Mevoweoyo, a pastor residing in Ibiono Ibom LGA of the state for alleged defilement of his daughter, whose name is withheld.

Parading the suspect on Monday alongside other suspects at the Command’s headquarters, the police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Timfon John said from investigations, the suspect started committing the crime when his daughter was 12 years old.

The police spokesperson said, “We have arrested one Louis Akpojotor Mevoweoyo, a pastor from Ughelli North LGA, residing in Ibiono Ibom, for defiling his daughter (name withheld).

“Investigations revealed that the suspect had been sexually assaulting the victim since she was 12 years old, with the latest incident occurring in December 2024.”

She also said the Command arrested one Daniel Effiong Umoh aka Akaka, 32, of Abak Itenghe, Abak local council for allegedly defiling a girl.

John said the suspect, armed with a machete, attacked and dragged the victim into the bush, where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

According to her, investigations revealed a history of sexual assault by the suspect on other teenage girls.

The Command also paraded a physically challenged person, one Umoh Ubong Udoh, for unlawful possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp which he was selling to criminals in Ifa Ikot Idang, Uyo.

The PPRO also paraded six suspects for child theft and trafficking in the state.

The police spokesperson said all the suspects would be prosecuted and charged to court at the end of investigations.

She also urged the public to avail the police of useful information and report every suspicious activities in their environment, as the Commissioner, CP Baba Mohammed Azare was determined to serve the state better.
