Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA director-general, said the incident occurred around midnight at Abule Osun, Trade Fair, Lagos.

He said the agency received distress calls through its toll-free emergency lines at 12:15 am.

“LASEMA received distress calls through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at about 00.15hrs, and activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans,” the statement reads.

“Upon arrival at the scene at about 00.40hrs, it was discovered that fire was raging at the LG office located at the above address.

“The fire spread throughout the entire warehouse, affecting equipment, small forklifts, household goods and electronics worth hundreds of millions of naira.”

Oke-Osanyintolu said his agency is working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to prevent the fire from spreading.

“LASEMA has also activated the fire unit to support the operation with several additional fire appliance trucks for a quick intervention,” he added.

“No fatalities or injuries in the incident but the fire has escalated to the entire premises.”

“The major warehouse has been severely damaged by the fire.

“However, through the effective collaborative efforts of the Agency’s LRT, LRU Fire Unit, the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, and other primary responders, the fire has been contained and prevented from spreading to adjacent structures, including other warehouses, a gas station, diesel tankers, expatriate quarters, and other adjoining buildings.

“The joint response team is still actively engaged in combating the fire.”

Oke-Osanyintolu, however, said the cause of the fire is yet to be known.
