The body of Peter Yunana, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who died while watching the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa on Wednesday, has been moved out of Yola, Adamawa State capital.

The corpse was conveyed out of Yola on Saturday ahead of the burial in Makarfi, Kaduna State on Sunday.

Yunana was one of several Nigerians who lost their lives while watching the tense game between the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana.

The corps member was watching the match at his place of primary assignment, Government Secondary School, Numan where he taught chemistry, before he slumped and died.

Several of his colleagues and students mourned as his body was being conveyed in an ambulance out of Yola.

Government officials, including the Secretary of Numan Local Government, David Afremond, were at the Numan bridge, along the Yola-Gombe highway, to pay their respects.

Yunana, 26, a community health graduate of Shehu Idris College of Health Technology, Makarfi, Kaduna State, would have completed his national service on October 31, 2024.
