The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission to Nigeria, Mr. Laurent Deboeck paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim over reviewing and updating policies related to youth development.

The meeting held on Tuesday, January 23rd 2024, delve on a wide range of important issues on youth development and empowerment in Nigeria.

Below is the summary of the key points discussed:

The discussions focused on strategies and programs aimed at empowering the youth in Nigeria, providing them with opportunities for skill development, employment, and overall personal growth.

The IOM agreed to offer assistance in reviewing and updating policies related to youth development, ensuring they align with current needs and challenges.

Recognizing the importance of mental health, the IOM may provide support for the implementation of programs focused on addressing the mental health needs of young people.

Giving special consideration to adaptation and mitigation strategies during the policy review process, possibly in response to environmental or socio-economic challenges.

The proposal to convert youth development centers into centers of excellence, suggesting a shift towards creating hubs that excel in specific areas of youth development.

Special attention have been given to strategies for empowering youth who are internally displaced, recognizing the unique challenges they face.

Recognizing the importance of accurate data, IOM agreed to provide support for improved data collection related to youth development.

Meanwhile, the comprehensive agenda indicates a strong commitment to addressing various facets of youth development and empowerment, with collaboration between the Ministry of Youth Development and the International Organization for Migration.
