“A maze of manipulation. Unimaginable atrocities. One of the most powerful religious figures of the 21st century. #BBCAfricaEye investigates. Three films. One podcast. Coming tomorrow. Nothing stays hidden forever,” the news organisation said.

The first part of the three-episode documentary will be released on Monday, January 8. It is expected to involve testimonies of alleged victims of sexual abuse, harassment, rape, manipulation, and staged miracles and the church’s response to the allegations.

Born June 12, 1963, in Ondo State, Joshua founded the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) but died on June 5, 2021.

As part of the investigation, the BBC interviewed at least 30 former members and workers of SCOAN.

The church is located in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos State. It grew from a local evangelical into a multimillion-dollar church with worshipers from all around the world.

According to Sahara Reporters, a part of the documentary revealed how SCOAN shielded its congregation from the truth about the collapse of one of the church’s guesthouses in 2014.

The BBC will air the documentary for three consecutive weeks.

In August 2021, senior pastor of the Household of God Church International Ministries, Rev. Chris Okotie, described Joshua as a magician who disguised himself as a minister of God.
