The Ogun State Local Government Service Commission has called on all Community Development Inspectors including their Assistants to ensure that government activities are properly propagated at the grassroots.

The Chairman of the Commission, Ms. Olubukunola Olivia Onabanjo gave the charge while holding a day short-course and update meeting of the Local Government Service Commission with all the Community Development Inspectors and Assistants in the State.

Speaking at the meeting held at the “Crescent Muslim Professionals’ Hall”, Leme, Abeokuta, Onabanjo said the Community Development Inspectors and their Assistants must ensure that all programmes of the government including the distribution of palliatives are properly and effectively disseminated to the grassroots.

“Your cadre is a nexus between the government and the masses as such, will play a vital role in ensuring the success of the government’s programmes and policies.

It is the duty and responsibility of your cadre to engage the community, build relationships and establish trust by identifying community needs through a needs assessment”.

She charged the Officers to engage in proper planning and implementation of government programmes.

“Your roles also include mobilizing resources for community projects, advocacy and policy development. Monitoring and evaluation of progress and effectiveness of community programmes and initiatives. Documentation and report on community development activities”.

“Premised on the aforementioned roles and duties of your cadre, you can harness your potential to bring the mission and vision of the government to reality”

She added “the government intends to cater for the vulnerable who are mostly hit by the subsidy removal. If you fail in your activities to provide the necessary data that will adequately capture the target audience, the lofty initiative of the government will suffer. Through your robust interaction and proper dissemination of information regarding government programmes, huge success can be achieved”.

She reiterated the commitment of government at all levels to reform the country “through their carefully designed programmes and policies”.

“Always contribute your quota in ensuring that various measures put in place by the government, such as “Social safety net policy, Distribution of food items and Conditional Cash transfers amongst other measures are successful”.

In his contribution, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Adeolu Oluseun Olufowobi called for dedication and commitment from the Community Development Inspectors and their Assistants so that government activities can be felt at the grassroots.

He said that Local government is the closest to the communities, that is why the officers must be informed on how to deal with the residents of each community.

“The Update meeting is to remind you of what we are supposed to be doing in our various Local Governments”.

Responding on behalf of the participants, Mrs. Oke Olufemi thanked the Commission for counting them worthy for the workgroup and update meeting.

She promised on behalf of her colleagues to be good “Ambassadors of the Ogun State Local Government Service”.
