The Nigeria Immigration Service, Ebonyi State command has assured of its readiness to support the office of the Ebonyi  First Lady, Mrs Mary-Maudlin Uzoamaka Nwifuru in the fight against human trafficking

The Comptroller, of Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs Catherine Uzzi disclosed this on Wednesday, during a courtesy visit to Her Excellency’s office at Centenary City Abakaliki,

The Comptroller while speaking on the dangers of human trafficking, informed the first lady on what the NIS has done in fighting child trafficking, child rape, forced labour and others in the society.

According to her, “Human trafficking occurred in the early 80s because of the dwindling economy of the country.”

Responding, the Ebonyi state Governor’s wife, Mrs Nwifuru commended the Nigeria Immigration Service, for their passion in rescuing young people, especially girls from the hands of traffickers.

Mrs Nwifuru, therefore, explained the need to keep thorough vigilance at the borders to ensure that parents are aware of the movement of their children outside the country.

She also encouraged them not to hesitate to call on her where necessary on issues that will mould the lives of young people better.
