A 27-year-old woman, Chioma Okeke accused of allegedly biting a mediator who attempted to bring peace during an argument, was on Wednesday, August 9, arraigned before a Grade I Area Court in Kado, Abuja.

 

Okeke who allegedly caused grievous harm to the mediator, was arrested after the matter was reported at the Utako Police Station by the complainant, Ms Roseline Isonguyoyo.

The defendant was accused of having an altercation with one of the complainant’s customers after turning up at her place of work in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

When the complainant tried intervening, she pounced on her, bit her on her right hand, and tore her clothes.

The prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku also alleged that the defendant attacked the complainant with a sharp object on her right eye.

The complainant was rushed to the Gwarinpa General Hospital, where she paid N15,000 to treat her injuries.

Okeke who pleaded not guilty to the offence which contravened the provision of Section 246 of the Penal Code Law was admitted bail of N500,000 and a surety in like sum by Justice Muhammed Wakili. The surety must provide a passport photograph, any valid means of identification, and a BVN printout from her bank.

 

Justice Muhammed Wakili then adjourned the case till September 19 for a hearing.
