The NIS chairman advised surveyors to take their rightful place as the bedrock of development, while calling on all professionals in the construction industry to restrict their practices to their areas of competence.

Adebowale said a lot of people do not know the importance of surveyors in their land and building project and that Global Surveyor’s Day is a day set aside to sensitise the people about the roles of surveyors in any construction work.

He stated that professional architects and town planners always work with and work on surveyors’ plans to get their work done perfectly and surveyors are very essential in building constructions.

The chairman, Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria, Surveyor Kayode Adekoya a fellow of the Institution, maintaines that land scamming is increasing day by day and as part of it’s obligations, Surveyors felt it is important for them to come and meet ordinary Nigerians like the Babalojas’ and Iyalojas’ in the market to enlighten them not to wait their hard earned money by patronizing unregistered surveyor who has no name and can not be traced,

“We also emphasized that they are free to come and report their land dispute with any registered surveyors, including any challenges they may be facing.

In his own submission, the Institution secretary Surveyor Debo Adeoye a fellow- elect said, in as much as building is a place of abode to keep ones head, he said land will then remain an essential basic need of mankind, land will always be needed by all and sundry, therefore it is imperative to engage not only a professional surveyor but a professional and registered with our association so that when trouble comes on land related matters the Institution can assist the client to solve it because land scammers are there waiting for who to scam.

He added “to avoid falling into wrong hands, since no one can build on the sky, today’s awareness is to inform the public about the dangers of patronizing non members of the association’
