A former Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludare Kadiri, has defended his stance on the alleged infractions by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, saying he has no regrets whatsoever.

Kadiri, who spoke in a chat with reporters at the weekend, said he will be surprised if the people of Ifo I State Constituency again return Oluomo to represent them by voting him in the coming gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections.

The lawmaker made the remarks after the Speaker was again absent during the week at the hearing of a defamation suit he (Oluomo) instituted before the State High Court, Abeokuta.

The matter came up last Tuesday at the High Court 4, Abeokuta judicial division but Oluomo and his counsel, who are the claimants, were absent from court.

However, Boluwatife Sanya appeared for Kadiri in court and called the attention of the trial judge, Justice Abiodun Akinyemi, to the fact that the Speaker and his counsel had been absent twice from court sitting.

As a result of the non-apperance of the claimants, the judge adjourned the matter to April 26.

It will be recalled that Oluomo and Kadiri, who both belong to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), fell out over the running of the affairs of the state House of Assembly, leading to the eventual impeachment of the latter.

The former Deputy Speaker accused the Speaker of fraud and forgery, among others, following which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Oluomo alongside some officials of the House of Assembly.

The trial of the EFCC case is billed to commence on March 27, 2023.

While the Speaker blamed his estranged former deputy for the ordeal in the hands of anti-graft agency, he equally filed a defemation suit against him for allegedly calling him a thief.

Speaking with reporters, Kadiri said he has no regrets about his claims against the Speaker which has further led to his suspension from the state legislature.

“I am not apologetic, I stand by all I have said about Mr Speaker. The truth is sacrosanct and it will surely come to light some day,” he remarked.
