Mr Macaroni: Extrajudicial killings in Lagos worsened under Sanwo-Olu

Mr. Macaroni, the skit maker, has argued that extrajudicial killings in Lagos worsened under the leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state governor.

A policeman in Lagos earlier shot dead Bolanle Raheem, a female lawyer, on Christmas Day.

The incident happened in Ajah when the deceased and her family were returning from a Church service.

Some police officers attached to the Ajiwe police station were said to have ordered the car conveying them to stop.

One of the officers, who later fled, allegedly shot at the car, while the bullet was said to have hit the lawyer.

Joining enraged Nigerians who have since been condemning the development in social discourse, Macaroni lamented that extrajudicial killings by the police have worsened under the current government.

“A Nigerian Police Officer from Ajiwe division shot and killed Bolanle Raheem on Xmas day. It is from this same division an Officer killed Gafaru Buraimoh about 2 weeks ago,” the comedian wrote on Monday.

“This barbarism by the Nigerian Police must come to an end. These Murderers must pay for their crimes!!!

“The PROs of the Nigerian Police who know how to gaslight Nigerians won’t come out now to make long threads to explain why police officers continue to murder the people. Shame on all of you.

“If it was a civilian that the police accused of a crime, even before proven guilty, you will give us their names, even snap pictures or make videos after beating them up. Keep protecting yours.

Dear Governor BabaJide SanwoOlu, The level of Insecurity, oppression, brutality and extrajudicial killings since you became Governor has worsened. You don’t control the police? Ok. But you are the Chief Security Officer of the state. What are you doing about it sir?

Kolade Johnson, an inhabitant of Lagos, was watching a live football match on March 31, 2019, in his neighbourhood when he was shot by a police officer.

His death and many others across the country culminated in the nationwide protest against police brutality that climaxed in October 2020.
