The Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa state has finally reacted to the arrest of Aminu Adamu, its student, over his controversial tweet on Aisha Buhari.

Aminu, who hails from Azare in Bauchi state, is a final-year student at the department of environmental management.

It had been reported that the student was arrested by the police over a tweet apparently mocking Aisha.

The tweet, which was posted in Hausa in June 2022, reads: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi.”

Aminu’s tweet, accompanied by a photo of Aisha, loosely translates as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”.

According to Premium Times, Abdullahi Bello, the institution’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the student in a statement on Monday.

Bello, however, said the student was not under the varsity’s care when he put out the controversial tweet, adding that the school was not in session then.

“The unfortunate incident involving Aminu Adamu who made a Twitter post happened during the break,” the statement reads.

“He did the posting in his capacity as Aminu Adamu, not as a student of FUD. He was trailed to Dutse where he was arrested.

“The university authorities have spoken to the parent who has already engaged the services of a lawyer to handle the matter and they are hopeful for an amicable resolution soon.”
