On Tuesday, students of the institution staged a protest against the introduction of N5,000 fee for late tuition payment.

The protesting students blocked the school gate and other roads leading to the varsity, grounding activities in the process.

The aggrieved students, who carried placards with various inscriptions, called on the management to reverse the levy which comes amid hike in the varsity’s tuition.

In a statement, Edward Olanipekun, the vice-chancellor of the institution, asked the students to vacate campus with immediate effect.

Olanipekun, in the statement issued by Bode Olofinmuagun, the varsity’s spokesperson, warned any student found on campus after the directive would be dealt with.

The VC added that the move was to prevent unrest within the institution.

“The vice-chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun, on behalf of the university Senate, has approved the suspension of academic activities on campus for two (2) weeks with effect from today, 11th April,” the statement reads.

“Arising from the above, all students of the university are ordered to vacate the campus premises immediately and should not be seen within the campus premises for the next two weeks.”
