UNIJOS ASUU asks members to resume teaching after sit-at-home order

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended the sit-at-home order earlier issued.

According to NAN, in a statement on Thursday, Lazarus Maigoro, the varsity’s ASUU chairman, also directed its members to resume teaching.

The union in the university had, after its congress on November 4, asked its members to quit teaching over their withheld salaries.

Maigoro, who said the chapter’s resolution was subject to the decision of its national body, announced it had suspended the earlier directives.

”After receiving briefing at our National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of Nov. 7, our members resolved to vacate the sit or work from home decision,” the statement reads.

“We also reaffirm our commitment to the ability of our principal officers to handle the matter appropriately.

“This implies that our members are fully back to work on campus.”

It had been reported how the lecturers were paid “half” of their salary for the month of October.

The federal government had justified its action, explaining that the lecturers were paid based on the number of days they worked in the stated month.

The development came after the union ended its eight-month strike which started on February 14.

The decision to suspend the strike came days after an order from the court of appeal sitting in Abuja.
