A fatal road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday claimed the life of a woman, while her 30-year-old daughter survived.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash occurred at the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis and involved a head-on collision between two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM.

According to the agency, its officials responded quickly after receiving a distress call, securing the scene and managing traffic to prevent further incidents. Officers from the Oworonsoki Police Division were also deployed to document the accident and begin investigations.

The deceased, identified as a mother travelling in one of the vehicles, was confirmed dead at the scene. Her daughter, who was in the same vehicle, survived the crash.

Authorities said one of the drivers fled the scene, while the other was apprehended by LASTMA officials and handed over to the police.

The body of the victim has been evacuated, and normal traffic flow has since been restored in the area.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, warned motorists against reckless driving, particularly speeding, urging strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
