Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, has withdrawn from Borno South Senatorial race, declaring support for the incumbent Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume.

Askira is a long-time member of the Borno Assembly, who has been representing Askira since 2007.

The deputy speaker made the declaration while addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Centre, in Maiduguri on Thursday.

Askira said his decision was taken after wide consultations and deep reflection, particularly on the meeting he had with Governor Babagana Zulum.

“So, I have taken the decision to formally withdraw from the race in the best interest of our great party, the Southern Borno Zone, and Borno State at large.

“In that spirit, I wholeheartedly endorse and pledge my total support for Senator Muhammadu Ali Ndume to continue representing Southern Borno in the Senate,” he added.

He called on his teeming supporters across the nine local government areas of the zone to accept his decision in good faith, close ranks and rally behind Senator Ali Ndume.

He also urged party loyalists to embrace consensus and work together to ensure victory for the APC in the 2027 general election
