The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed officers seen in a viral stop-and-search video in Lagos to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary proceedings.

The directive was disclosed on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Giwa, in a statement shared via his official X handle.

According to Giwa, the officers involved in the incident, which reportedly occurred in the Satellite Town area of Lagos, have been ordered to appear before the authorities on Wednesday to answer questions regarding their conduct.

The action follows public outrage triggered by a viral video circulating on social media, showing officers allegedly harassing civilians during a roadside stop-and-search operation.

In the footage, the officers were seen intercepting a vehicle, instructing occupants to alight, and isolating one individual for a search away from the vehicle.

The video, which surfaced on Saturday, was posted by a user identified as @ChuksEricE.

Giwa stated that the directive reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to accountability and professional conduct.

He urged officers to maintain discipline, exercise restraint, and respect the rights of citizens while carrying out their duties.

“The Nigeria Police Force values the concerns of the public, which continue to reinforce our commitment to accountability and professional standards,” he said.

He further assured Nigerians that the Force remains dedicated to upholding discipline, justice, and institutional integrity, adding that appropriate sanctions would be applied based on the outcome of the disciplinary process.
