A 43- year- old man, Kelechi Nwosu, has been arrested for allegedly def!ling his sister’s 7-year-old daughter in Umuobi Umukam in Obollo Autonomous Community, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on December 20, 2025.

Activist and journalist, Chidiebube Okeoma, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, December 24, said the suspect was arrested by his kinsmen and handed over to Police at Isiala Mbano Divisional Headquarters from where he was taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Owerri.

Okeoma, who is the president of a human rights organization, Stand For Humanity Foundation, said medical investigations carried out at the Police clinic in Owerri on Tuesday revealed that the child was abused.

The result of the medical investigations also revealed that the suspect transmitted a urinary infection on the minor.

The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, who confirmed the arrest said that the suspect would be arraigned at the conclusion of the investigations.

According to Okeoma, the statement by the minor to his organization and to the police disclosed that the suspect defiled her in two separate occasions

“Our organization, Stand For Humanity Foundation thanks the people of Umuobi Umukam Obollo community in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State for collaborating with us to arrest Kelechi Nwosu who def!led his seven year- old sister’s daughter when everyone had left the home for the farm, last Saturday,” the statement read.

“By this act, the people of Umuobi Umukam Obollo community have demonstrated that they are true apostles of justice and we urge other communities in Imo State and beyond to follow the Umuobi Umukam example in fighting child abuses in the society.

“We are grateful to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal and Investigations Department – Owerri, for the professional commitment he has deployed since the president of our organization, Chidiebube Okeoma, reported the incest case to him.

“Medical investigations we conducted at the police clinic in Owerri revealed that the child’s private region was tampered with. There was penetration. We have also carried out medical investigations on the suspect to ascertain his health status so that the child’s health will be protected.

“Under our watch, abusers of children will be made to face the full wrath of the law. Those who abuse children will continue to confront the law and our platform will continue to stand with all victims of battery, suppression and injustices.”
