Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Monday presided over a high-level security meeting with heads of all security agencies in the state, rolling out a new set of measures aimed at strengthening public safety, tightening border control, and curbing emerging criminal threats.

Speaking after the closed-door session held in Iperu, Ogun State, Governor Abiodun commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as “purposeful leadership” that has helped stabilise the national economy despite what he called “false narratives” circulating in some quarters.

He also congratulated the President and security agencies for the progress recorded in the rescue of kidnap victims recently abducted in Niger and Kwara states.

“As the industrial capital of Nigeria and the gateway state linking the nation’s financial hub to the rest of the country, Ogun must continue to act proactively to maintain its status as one of the most peaceful states in the federation,” Abiodun said. “The best time to prepare for war is during peace. There can be no economic development in an atmosphere of insecurity.”

The governor said the expanded security meeting was convened to reinforce Ogun’s preparedness and review all emerging security concerns.

Key Resolutions

Mandatory Documentation of Foreign Nationals:
The governor directed that all foreign nationals residing in the state must undergo proper documentation in line with immigration and security protocols.

Dismantling of ZAGA Enclave:
The controversial ZAGA settlement, identified as a haven for unlawful activities, is to be dismantled and taken over by the government.

Sanctions for Landlords Harbouring Criminals:
Landlords who accommodate miscreants or criminal elements will face strict legal sanctions, he warned.

Engagement with Non-Indigenes:
An engagement meeting will be convened with leaders of non-indigene communities to strengthen cooperation and improve intelligence sharing.

Forward Operating Base in Ilara, Yewa North:
The state will fast-track the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ilara, a major border community, to tighten security along the Nigeria–Benin Republic corridor.

Control of Scavengers:
The activities of scavengers will be strictly regulated to curb criminal infiltration and illegal practices masked as scrap collection.

Forest and Reserve Operations:
Security agencies have been directed to intensify “forest flushing” operations to dismantle hideouts used by criminals within reserves and remote settlements.

Crackdown on Illegal Mining:
The state will adopt tougher measures against illegal mining operators, with offenders to be arrested and prosecuted.

Ajebo Settlement Under Investigation:
A non-indigene settlement in Ajebo is currently under security investigation, the governor confirmed, adding that appropriate actions will follow the outcome of ongoing interrogations.

Assurance to Residents

Governor Abiodun assured residents that his administration remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, adding that the state is also strengthening inter-agency collaboration to modernize its security architecture.

He expressed appreciation to local hunters for their cooperation with formal security agencies and reiterated the state’s commitment to supporting law enforcement.

“Security is a joint responsibility,” he said. “We urge citizens to give timely information to the authorities to enable prompt and effective response.”
