A herdsman has been shot dead, alongside 36 of his cattle, in a fresh unprovoked attack by unidentified assailants at Ndinn village, Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, marks yet another wave of violence in the troubled region, where attacks and reprisals continued to claim lives and destroy livelihoods.

According to security expert, Zagazola Makama, residents in the area decried the persistent insecurity, lamenting that despite several similar assaults in recent weeks; no arrests have been made, allowing the perpetrators to operate with impunity.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Muhammad Saidu, coordinator of the Fulbe Youth Development Association (FUYODA), Riyom Chapter, condemned the attack as “a heartbreaking reminder of the persistent insecurity and injustice faced by peaceful Fulani communities in Plateau.”

“We strongly condemn this act of violence and call on the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served,” Saidu said.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and urged the government to restore confidence among pastoral communities who, he noted, continue to suffer silent losses in the ongoing communal crisis.

“May Almighty Allah grant Abubakar Alhaji Woda Jannatul Firdaus, forgive his shortcomings, and comfort his family during this difficult time,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Plateau State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the attack.

Makama reports that the recurring cycle of violence in Plateau State is often framed as retaliatory, with numerous assaults on herders going undocumented or receiving limited attention.

Community leaders have renewed calls on security operatives to identify and prosecute the perpetrators, warning that continued impunity could further escalate hostilities in the area.
