Nuj Bayelsa State Council Assured Bayelsans Of Proposed Media Summit Will Be Useful

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council has assured journalists in the State and indeed Bayelsans that
the proposed Media Summit is expected to be one of its kind that would impact positively on the State.

This was contained in a statement by the Chairman of the State Council of the Union, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Media Summit, Comrade Tarinyo Akono as well as the Secretary, Comrade Stanley Imgbi.

The event, which will run for two days, has as its theme: “Media,Culture and Identity in Bayelsa State, Promoting Indigenous Perspective”.

According to the statement, Governor Douye Diri is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour and will declare the Summit open.

The statement added that, resource persons are drawn from both within and outside the State, as Professor Aniefiok Udoudo of the Faculty of Communication Studies ,University of Port Harcourt, is expected to be the Keystone Speaker.

The statement added that the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei will be presenting a paper titled, “Setting a Media Agenda for the ASSURED PROSPERITY AGENDA”.

Dr Beauty Okuboere Niyekpemi of the Department of Economics of the state-owned Niger Delta University, is expected to discuss the topic, “Blue Economy: Harnessing the Socio-Economic Potentials in Bayelsa State”.

It averred that Professor Barclays Ayakoroma, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Africa,Toru-Orua will be doing justice to the topic, “Telling the Bayelsa Story in Contemporary Media”.

And lastly, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Bishop Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, Professor Muyiwa Popoola will take on the topic “Ethical Reporting: Re-orienting the Bayelsa Journalist”.

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Alhasan Yahya as well as the Zonal leadership will also be in attendance.

The statement added that the two-day event will be rounded off with a dinner and as expected, the Bayelsa State Council for Arts and Culture will be performing in addition to other activities.

The statement enjoined Journalists in the State and invited guests to arrive on time, register and be seated by 9am prompt.
