The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, has undertaken an inspection of key water infrastructure facilities in Abeokuta, the state capital, to assess their condition and identify areas requiring urgent upgrades and repairs.

During the tour, which covered the Arakanga Main Scheme (New and Old Schemes), Adatan Booster Station, Oke-Temidire Reservoir, Alamala, Panseke, Ibara Booster Station, and the Abeokuta Area Office, Hon. Otubanjo highlighted the pressing need for modernization and rehabilitation to enhance service delivery and ensure sustainable access to potable water for residents.

“This inspection has provided valuable insights into the state of our facilities. It is evident that there is a need for proper maintenance, additional manpower, and significant infrastructure upgrades. The government is committed to making the necessary investments and adopting advanced technologies to modernize these systems, ensuring a reliable and safe water supply for all,” she stated.

Hon. Otubanjo commended the dedication of facility staff despite existing challenges, including aging infrastructure, pipe leakages, and resource limitations. She assured them of the government’s commitment to addressing these issues and improving working conditions.

Also speaking, the Consultant to the Governor on Water, Alhaja Muinat Jaji, emphasized that findings from the inspection will inform a comprehensive reform strategy. She noted that efforts will focus on optimizing water production and distribution across the state, covering areas such as Papalanto, Ota, Ijebu-Ode Yemoji, Apoje Water Works, and various borehole schemes.

She further urged residents to pay their water bills promptly and promptly report any damaged or leaking pipelines to prevent contamination. She reassured the public that ongoing efforts are being made to restore water supply to customers who were disconnected due to road construction projects under the previous administration.

A resident of Obantoko, Abeokuta, Mrs. Nofisat Olanrewaju, praised the state government’s efforts, noting that the introduction of prepaid metering has significantly improved access to clean and potable water in her area.

Similarly, the Chairman of Workers’ Estate, Laderin, Abeokuta, Arch. Sulaiman Oladipo, commended the government for its proactive measures and pledged the community’s continued support for ongoing water infrastructure improvements.
