Over 1000 pregnant women In Benue State have received free medical care under a program initiated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume.

The first phase of the outreach was launched recently, with Sen. Akume emphasizing the importance of women’s health during pregnancy.

The program, organized by Pharmacist Dr. Emmanuel Agba, the founder of Agba Foundation and his team, aimed to address issues such as anaemia and provide delivery kits as well as bags of rice to the pregnant women.

Sen. Akume who was represented by his wife, Hon. Mrs. Regina Akume, Member representing Gboko / Tarka in the Federal House of Representatives, expressed his gratitude to the organizers and highlighted the importance of supporting pregnant women for a healthy pregnancy.

Dr. Emmanuel Agba, the Managing Director of Tyonex Group of Companies, emphasized the significance of addressing anaemia in pregnant women, citing its severe consequences on maternal and child health.

He said the outreach program was focused on preventing anaemia in pregnant women by providing essential nutrients such as iron and folic acid supplements.

Dr. Agba expressed the hope the outreach was intended to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of the community through their efforts.

He stressed the importance of providing supplements to prevent and treat anaemia during pregnancy in order to save lives and reduce maternal mortality by ensuring that pregnant women had access to all essential supplements.

The Chairman of Occasion and Publicity Secretary of APC in Benue State, Mr. Daniel Morgan Ihomun announced that the second phase of the program which comes up in due course was set to benefit even more pregnant women in Benue State, with plans to expand the outreach to all the 23 Local Governments in the State.

He commended the organizers of the program, led by Pharmacist Emmanuel Agba, for their dedication to improving maternal health and honouring Sen. Akume’s commitment to community service.

He explained that the success of the program highlighted the impact of leadership and compassion on public health initiatives of the SGF.
