The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has been invited by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Department of Force Intelligence (DFI) for questioning in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.

A letter dated August 18, 2024, and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nadamu S. Muazu, acting on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, was delivered to Mr. Ajaero.

The letter reads:

LETTER OF INVITATION

”This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion and Cybercrime in which you were mentioned.

  1. You are therefore invited to interview the undersigned on Tuesday 20th Aug, 2024 by 10:00hrs prompt, at IRT Complex, Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the Team Leader with telephone no 08035179870 in connection with the above investigation.
  1. Be informed that in the event of failing to honour this letter, this office will have no alternative than to activate a warrant of arrest against you please.

The letter requested his presence at the IRT Complex in Guzape District, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, for an interview regarding the ongoing investigation.”

According to the letter, the investigation involves serious offenses, and Ajaero’s name has been linked to the case.

The letter further warned that failure to comply with the invitation may lead to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

The NLC president is expected to meet with the Team Leader at the IRT Complex to clarify his involvement, if any, in the case.

Further updates on this case will be provided as details emerge.

Reacting to the letter, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, in a post on his office X handle, called for action against President Bola Tinubu’s government.

He wrote: “The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime is going completely fascist, and we must all together and stop him now! See a letter from @PoliceNG summoning @NLCHeadquarters President @JoeAjaero94024 practically accusing him of treason, terrorism financing and all sorts of heinous crimes. #FearlessInOctober #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria #RevolutionNow
