As the World observes the 2024 World Obesity Day, an Expert, Dr. Manish Motwani has recommended constant intake of water, regular exercise, and eating of balanced diet to fight obesity

Dr. Manish also recommended Bariatric surgery as the lasting solution for obesity person saying that Obesity has become a global health burden, thereby increasing the risk of developing a wide range of chronic diseases.

He made the recommendation at the Rotary Club International 42nd annual World Obesity Day held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

The programme which was organized by Rotary Club Districts 9110 and 3141 as part of the activities for the world Obesity Day, disclosed that being obese and overweight can affect both physical as well as mental wellbeing of a person.

Dr. Manish Motwani, a Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon and District Governor 25-26 (Rotary 3141) also a Dr at Aastha Bariatric/Breach Candy Hospital Mumbai India, while speaking on the topic “Elevating obesity care in Nigeria, the Bariatric approach” posited that obesity is a curable disease, but must be attended to to avoid it developing to a cancerous level or results to hypertension, and others.

He recommended that regular exercise, drinking enough water, and eating a balanced diet will prevent someone from been obese.

Manish maintained that the other way to go about it is Bariatric surgery, which is a major step for the control of obesity, serving as the lasting solution.

In her welcome address, Rotarian Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie, District Governor District 9110 who was represented by Dr. Hassan Adelakun stated that obesity is one of the major challenges that many people are facing today.

He added that it is pertinent to see it as a serious thing and prevent it in all courses adding that it is hereditary but preventable.

World Obesity Day is been observed globally since 2015 on the 11th October annually to educate and raise awareness among the general public about the dangers of obesity and ways to control the growing epidemic

Obesity is one of the main risk factors of several chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, kidney and liver disease
Approximately 2.8 million persons die each year due to obesity-related illnesses and now obesity has been recognized as a chronic potentially life-threatening disease that should be addressed by health personnel and policymakers at the highest level.
