The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Olumuyiwa, in connection with a case of missing chickens on a farm.

The missing chickens were said to be worth N8m.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Odutola said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged by the director of the farm simply identified as Bamgbose.

She explained that the director noted that when chickens on the farm were tallied, over 1,300 chickens worth N8m could not be accounted for.

She said, “On August 11, 2023, when the fowls were counted, the director discovered that about 1,300 valued at N8m could not be accounted for.

“The farm director is pained at the enormous havoc done to the poultry farm, especially during the current harsh economic situation.”

She noted that following the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, the command embarked on a preliminary investigation which led to the arrest of one suspect.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has been briefed and he has ordered more investigation.

“A preliminary investigation has commenced and the suspect has been apprehended and is presently in police custody to ascertain the extent or veracity of theft if he was stealing from the poultry farm and selling or eating them, all that will be made known soon to members of the public,” she said.

Meanwhile, the command has also arrested a man, Shobakin, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and generator in the Odeda area of the state.

Odutola, in a separate statement on Sunday, said, “The Divisional Police Officer in Odeda has started the investigation into the arrest of one Shobakin who was brought to the station by one Ojerinde Opeoluwa of Agbekoya Solidarity Movement of Nigeria on Sunday.

“The suspect had a dismantled unregistered motorcycle, one single-barrel gun, two Dane guns and one Tiger generating set.

“The suspect has not been able to give meaningful answers to the questions put across to him by CSP Waheed Oni who is the DPO to ascertain how the items got to his possession, he only muttered that one Mathew, surname yet unknown, brought the items to him.”

Odutola said until the suspect was able to explain accurately the source of the items, the matter would be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for discreet investigation.

“This is a case of community theft based on intelligence sharing from other security outfits in the state. After the investigation, the suspect will be properly charged or otherwise,” she added.
