President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has assured Nigerians of improved security and economic prosperity as Muslims across the country celebrate the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir festival.
In his Sallah message released on Tuesday, the President called for national unity, compassion, and prayers for the country, stressing that his administration remains committed to rebuilding the nation and ensuring peace and stability.
Tinubu acknowledged that the economic reforms introduced by his government over the past three years had been difficult but described them as necessary steps towards creating a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
According to him, the reforms are already producing positive results, including a more stable economy and increased investor confidence capable of driving job creation and economic growth.
The President declared that “the walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here,” expressing confidence that ongoing reforms would continue to deliver improved security and greater opportunities for citizens.
While commending the efforts of security agencies, Tinubu admitted that terrorists and bandits were still carrying out attacks in some communities despite recent successes recorded by the military and intelligence agencies.
He referenced the recent elimination of a wanted ISIS leader, assuring affected communities that they had not been abandoned by the Federal Government.
“We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil,” the President stated, while urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and united in the face of security challenges.
Tinubu also called on Muslims and Nigerians generally to reflect on the core lessons of Eid-el-Kabir, particularly sacrifice, obedience, love, and compassion for humanity.
Drawing inspiration from Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in obedience to Allah’s command, the President urged citizens to show mercy and kindness regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences.
He encouraged Nigerians to extend support to the less privileged during the festive period and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence across the country.
“My administration remains committed to building a Nigeria where all citizens can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their dreams without fear,” Tinubu said.
The President further appealed to Muslim faithful to use the occasion to pray for peace, wisdom for leaders, and divine guidance for the nation.
He warned criminals and troublemakers to abandon their evil acts or face the full weight of the law.
Tinubu concluded by wishing Muslims in Nigeria and across the world a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration, praying that Allah would accept their sacrifices and continue to bless the country.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
The government urged Nigerians to use the festive season to promote peace, unity, and national development.
The Eid-el-Kabir celebration, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, is one of the most significant festivals in Islam and is observed by Muslims worldwide through prayers, sacrifices, and acts of charity.
